I bought 2 whole cooked lobsters (frozen). I have now defrosted them, but have just noticed that there are no heating instructions on the packet! I don't want to overcook it, but I definitely don't want to undercook it and give myself food poisoning! Should I boil them in a pan for 5 mins? or put them in the oven in tin foil (for how long?)? Any advice would be much appreciated as I'm cooking them in half an hour for the dinner! How long do I heat a whole cooked lobster?
If you don't need them whole, I have always taken the meat out and heated it in a bit of butter over low heat.
You can put them on a tray and put them in the oven... It will dry it out a bit and concentrate the flavor.
';Wet'; heating like steaming is OK but the added moisture can dilute the flavors and you lose any juices that come out.
Dry heating methods allow you to keep all the natural goodness undiluted.
If you have a large frying pan with a lid you can heat up the pan, put the lobsters feet down and put the lid on. Turn it over so that one side isn't exposed to the heat for more then a few min's and the ambient heat trapped under the lid will heat it through.
But you will get the best result if you can pull the meat out of the lobster and heat it in a sauce or butter... Smaller pieces heat faster and lessen the chance that you will over cook them. How long do I heat a whole cooked lobster?
if you bought them fully cooked, then there should be no reason to worry about under-cooking them. i would recommend that you call your local fishmonger and ask them...or call a local restaurant that serves lobster or similar and ask them....you could also go to foodnetwork.com and see if the answer is there....
Fill a pot with water and when it comes to a boil toss the lobsters in for 3-5 minutes, they are already cooked and safe to eat cold, you are only heating them up so they taste better.
Hi there - if the lobsters are thawed completely put both lobsters in boiling water (with touch of sea salt if you have it) for 5 - 8 mins depending upon size.
