Question About Lobster - Size & Where To Order?

What is a good pound size for a lobster? My honey is an absolute foodie and loves lobster, but he is quite picky about quality and taste. I thought it would be nice to order him live Maine lobster for an Xmas gift, but I have no clue where to order it from and for how many pounds? Again, he is very picky so I am sure he will know the difference between ';good'; lobster and just ';so-so';. I am NOT going for quantity or price, but rather, quality. Please send any recommendations you have on which companies are reputable to order online and/or pound size. For the record, I do not eat seafood, so I don't know the conceptions of 1 pound comparable to this or 1 pound comparable to that......please be specific ...... I don't know any better....also, some companies seem to offer sending a lobster cooking pot with part of their shipment....which is better? Ceramic or gold steamer?

Any fresh Maine lobster is a good tasting lobster. The smallest ones are about 1 % 1/2 pounds. A good medium size lobster is 2 - 2 1/2 lbs. Anything larger than that .... the meat becomes tough.





I am a HUGE lobster lover and have been eating it since I was little. I highly recommend a 2 - 2 1/2 pounder. He will be in Heaven!





Don't waste your money on a lobster cooker. You can steam it in any large pot or stuff and bake it. Email me if you want details on this.

You should check out www.novascotialobsters.com. There are lots of choices of packages available, the prices are reasonable, and Nova Scotia lobster is the best in the world, They have just started their fall lobster season, so this is the best time to order to get freshly caught lobster.

I ordered 10 (I think) a few years ago from a company in Maine. This was for a Christmas present for my son and we had them for Christmas dinner. I just did an on line search and sorry, don't remember the company. They sent them packed on ice and sea weed and the are alive when they arrive. To cook you just need a very large pot with boiling water. A trick I read later is after cooking, just before serving, cut off a small bit from the claws to let the water drain.
